The blade on this rather handsome style cleaver is forged out of some stainless clad san-mai steel from Takefu in Japan. This gives you the convenience of a stainless steel ofer most of the blade but with the core steel (edge steel) being a very high performing carbon steel known as super blue. The main purposes of this cleaver is for vegetable prep but will be just at home slicing meat should you choose. However, it has a very finely ground edge so it would be suitable for chopping bones or similar. The handle on this cleaver is in a traditional japanese wa style and has a lovely feel in the hand. The handle material is pau-rosa and blackwood.
